Jamaica tour – from Montego Bay to Kingston… Easter holidays March/April 2026 The direct flight from Amsterdam to Montego Bay on Tuesday, March 31st, at midday went perfectly. I landed in Jamaica that same afternoon – with a seven-hour time difference. Since I slept soundly on the plane, I hardly noticed the jet lag in the following days. When Bernd picked me up with the dinghy at the Pier 1 beach restaurant and took me to the "Joline," we stayed on the boat for the rest of the day, and I went to bed early. Besides Petra and Bernd, I spent the first few days on the boat with two other travelers, Zsuszanna and David. What I hadn't expected on the day of arrival was that…
Installation of a Zen 50 watermaker on a Lagoon 421
Prologue On a bluewater yacht, water isn't just a comfort, but a crucial factor for safety and independence. Especially when sailing far from harbors for extended periods, the topic of watermakers becomes almost unavoidable. After some research and many discussions, we opted for a Schenker Zen 50. You can read about how we arrived at this particular model here: Choosing a Watermaker. This article, however, focuses not on the theory, but on the practical implementation aboard our Lagoon 421 "Joline." The Zen 50 produces around 50 liters of drinking water per hour with moderate power consumption and a comparatively low operating pressure. The major challenge with catamarans is almost always…
Guest article by Gordon: Sailing with a hammerhead shark and a crocodile – 10 days on an adventure course in Florida
Mar. 2025 Anyone who thinks sailing is a relaxing affair with champagne in a hammock and seagulls singing to you about lunch has never been out with Petra, Bernd, Florian, and two curious crocodiles. But let's start from the beginning. Jet lag, dinghy, cabin—welcome to Florida! After a 14-hour flight (in human time: about two seasons of Netflix and three sluggish meals), we landed in Miami. Our friends Petra and Bernd were already waiting at Diner Key Marina—plus Florian, another fellow sailor with amazing seaworthiness and a surprising love of vegetarian food. Off we went in the dinghy to the catamaran Joline, our floating adventure platform. We settled into the cabin, got our bearings, and instantly felt at home—and...
Guest article: Experience the Bahamas in a completely unconventional way
16. - 26.02.2025 Sailing and vacationing between Nassau and Eleuthera… In November 2024 The opportunity arose quite spontaneously to sail on the Blue Joline in the Bahamas from February 16-26.02. I didn't have to think twice, because you don't get to go on a vacation like this every day. I'd known Petra & Bernd for a long time through my friendship with their daughter Celine, so it wasn't a problem. Time passed quickly, and we set off from Amsterdam on Saturday, February 15.02, first heading for Atlanta, then, with a slight delay, on February 16.02, heading for Nassau. There, we met our fellow sailors and settled into our cabin. The weather was perfect...
