Guest article: Experience the Bahamas in a completely unconventional way

Sailing and vacationing between Nassau and Eleuthera…

In November 2024 The opportunity arose quite spontaneously to sail on the Blue Joline in the Bahamas from February 16-26.02. I didn't have to think twice, because you don't get to go on a vacation like this every day.

I had known Petra & Bernd for a long time through my friendship with their daughter Celine, so that wasn't a problem.

Time passed quickly and we left Amsterdam on Saturday, February 15.02th, first heading towards Atlanta, then on February 16.02th, with a slight delay, heading towards Nassau.

There, we met our fellow sailors and settled into our cabin. In perfect weather, we then set off straight to Athol Island, to see the pigs on the beach.

The piglets from Athol Island are quite curious.

The pigs were very trusting and were happy about our leftover vegetables.

The next day we continued to Egg Island, where we saw nurse sharks and went snorkeling.

The water was crystal clear and had the most beautiful shades of blue. The beaches were also worth seeing.

The sunrises and sunsets were also impressive.

On Harbour Island, we visited Pink Sands Beach. A beautiful, uncrowded, long beach.

We really liked the surrounding area. The colorful houses are truly charming.

Another day we went to Spanish Wells. We explored the island by golf cart, which is highly recommended.

Great houses and a beautiful landscape.

Eleuthera was really beautiful and everything we saw and experienced was highly recommended.

Personally, I really liked the fact that none of the places I visited were overcrowded or full of tourism.

We saw beaches and animals that you probably wouldn't have seen on a package hotel holiday.

The catamaran and the dinghy made us very flexible and we experienced more in the 10 days than I could have imagined.

We were able to go to great snorkeling spots and really had it all to ourselves.

On the last day and evening before departure, we were still in Nassau. I personally didn't like the city itself very much.

Liked the other places. Naturally, there were more tourists there due to the many cruise ships.

Paradise Island, the Atlantis Hotel and the boats in the marina were definitely more impressive.

I had a really nice time on the Blue Joline, and also an unforgettable holiday with many

great memories.
Thank you for the opportunity and maybe see you soon!
