Jamaica: The cliff divers at Rick's Cafe
02.04.2026
First impression: More than just a bar
Rick's Cafe is no ordinary place. It's a combination of bar, restaurant, and adventure playground – built directly onto the rugged limestone cliffs of the west coast. Since opening in 1974, the spot has grown from a simple bar in a sleepy fishing village into one of Jamaica's most famous attractions.
The Cliff Divers: Courage, Adrenaline and Applause
The heart of Rick's are the cliff divers.
A local man climbs the rocks barefoot, stands at the edge – perhaps 10 meters above the water – and jumps. A somersault. Perfect form. A clean splash. Cheers.
The official diving platforms for visitors are located at heights of approximately 3 to 10 meters.
But the real professionals go much higher – some even jump from around 25 meters and show spectacular tricks.
These local divers are not show stars in the classic sense, but real Jamaicans who have honed their skills over months and years and often live off tips.
The real show is the guests.
Yes, the locals are impressive.
But the real highlights?
These are just ordinary visitors who gather their courage and jump.
Because that's exactly where the magic happens:
👉 Fear turns into adrenaline
👉 Hesitation turns into jubilation
👉 Tourists become legends for 3 seconds

I jumped several times from the highest tourist platform and afterwards was even allowed to go onto a platform located in a tree. That was really high. A truly amazing experience.

Hi Benjamin – congratulations – the jump from way up high – over 20m – and the water – crystal clear – you can hardly tell when you hit the water… Best regards, Petra

My biggest risk in the indoor swimming pool was jumping from the 5-meter diving board.
I hope there were no accidents among the local jumpers! 😬

Hi Martina, you're already further along than me... I only made it as far as the jump from the three-meter diving board for my junior swimming badge))) I wonder if there are any accidents... at least not when we were there... Best, Petra
