Caribbean Sea Video: Striped dolphins in our bow wave

19.04.2026

During our sailing trip from Jamaica to Panama across the Caribbean Sea, we were accompanied by a group of striped dolphins. The animals swam alongside us for quite some time, using the bow wave to gain speed with minimal energy expenditure. Typical of this species were the clearly visible dark stripes along their flanks and their slender, streamlined bodies.

Striped dolphins usually stay in deeper offshore waters, which explains why we encountered them far from the coast.

After some time, the group dispersed and disappeared into the open sea.
