Hello and welcome,

We're Petra and Bernd. In our late 50s, we fulfilled our dream of sailing around the world and are now on our way to explore the world by sailboat. You can read about how it all came about and how it all developed over time elsewhere in the blog.

Here are a few details about us.

Petra Co-Captain

Hello, I’m Petra – born in 1962.

Actually, I had no interest in water sports at all – my first encounters with boats hadn't left a lasting positive impression on me – quite the opposite.

At my husband's urging, I went to the 2009 Düsseldorf Boat Show to look at the first sailing yachts and houseboats, hoping to rent one for a tour of the Mecklenburg Lake District or through Potsdam and Berlin. Instead, we spontaneously and without any prior planning bought a sports boat – a Quicksilver Commander 555 with 80 hp, which we picked up from the dealer in April 2009 for our first tour on the Moselle.

This is how it all began…

To prepare for life on the water, I obtained inland and sea boat licenses as well as a radio license.

I love life on the water – but above all I love the independence, the freedom and being on the move.

I look forward to meeting new people, making new friends, getting to know other cultures and cuisines, traveling to foreign countries and feeling a bit at home there.

For this purpose, I have acquired extensive language skills in English, French and Spanish.

On board I take care of organization and travel planning as well as communication – maintenance of our website, the WhatsApp group of our followers and the care of our crew guests.

Bernd – Captain, machinist, man for all occasions

Hello, I am Bernd – born in 1963,

My heart has always been for water and the sea. Swimming, boating, fishing—everything has fascinated me since childhood: the vastness, the tranquility, the power, the impetuousness.

I have held management positions in industry for many years and I have a good understanding of people and what it means to take on responsibility and to plan and manage projects.

I have a wide range of interests and am well-versed in the fields of technology and electrical/electronics. This allows me to perform or estimate all the work that arises on board. For me, there are no problems, but rather challenges that must be overcome. I'm a cerebral person, optimistic, and almost always have a plan B. I love challenges and new things.

I started sailing as a child. First on my father's sailboat, and later on I had a dinghy, on which I gained a lot of experience. In winter, it's skiing, which promises freedom and adventure.

I also enjoy cooking and am quite experimental.
